As our Association continues to grown and develop, we will experience the loss of valued committee members–currently active, or past members. This page is to honour and remember their contribution to our local “seedy” events, and the “seedy” movement across Canada. February 28, 2015 is the date of our first memoriam listed here.
Craig Young – February 28, 2015: From 2005 until his retirement in late February, just days before his death in February, 2015, Craig Young was at the heart of Qualicum Beach Seedy Saturday. A dedicated educator, an avid gardener, and a committed volunteer, Craig personified the primary goals of Qualicum Beach Seedy Saturday: the conservation of biodiversity, especially the biodiversity of seeds, and public education about seed-saving, environmentally responsible gardening, and local food production. With his computer skills and his readiness to innovate he took on a multitude of QBSS tasks, for example vendor registration, event set up and layout, program and poster creation, and website development. With his gentle humour, his integrity, his great good sense, and his quiet wisdom Craig was a much loved member of the QBSS team. As we were preparing QBSS 2016, many a time we shared a moment of sadness and a collective smile as we remembered our dear Craig. The QBSS 2016 Organizing Committee
Tree Planting in Memory of Craig: On Thursday, October 13, 2016, two apple trees were planted in the garden plot at Kwalikum Senior Secondary, Qualicum Beach, BC. Canada. The planting was attended by several current committee members, Craig’s wife, Sylvia, friends of Craig’s, plus Kwalikum gardening students. Our committee has missed this very nice man, and we are pleased that we could plant these growing and enduring trees to honour him.
